ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ 500 ವರ್ಷವಾಗಲಿದೆ. 1937 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಂಪೇಗೌಡರಿಂದ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿತವಾದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ‘ಗಂಡು ಭೂಮಿ’ ಎಂದು ಕೂಡ ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು. ಅನೇಕ ವಿಷಯಗಳು, ವಿಶೇಷತೆಗಳಿಂದಾಗಿ ವಿಶ್ವದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಹೆಸರು ವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಶ್ವದ ಕೆಲವು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ನಗರಗಳಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಹಳೆಯದು ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ. 2036ಕ್ಕೆ 500 ವರ್ಷ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿ 2037ರಲ್ಲಿ 501ನೇ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಕಾಲಿಡಲಿದೆ. 500ನೇ ಹುಟ್ಟು ಹಬ್ಬದ ಆಚರಣೆ ಸುಮಾರು ಹತ್ತು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ನಡೆಯುವ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆ ಇದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರವೂ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿದೆ. ಅಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಬ್ರ್ಯಾನ್ಡ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು’ ‘ಗ್ರೇಟರ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು’ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಶ್ವ ದರ್ಜೆಯ ನಗರವಾಗಿ ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳಲು ತಯಾರಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿದೆ.
