Suicide in jail
An undertrial prisoner allegedly committed suicide in Gadag jail. An undertrial prisoner is undertrial due to the misconception that he has not been granted bail
Raju Lamani (19) committed suicide.
He was booked under the POCSO Act for allegedly in love with a minor.
The youth, a resident of Adavi Somapur Tanda in Gadag taluk , was booked under the POCSO Act. The young man was granted bail on Thursday evening. The information about the bail had not gone to the jail as the court hours were over.
Therefore, he committed suicide knowing that he had not been granted bail,” the accused’s lawyer M. v . Maulvi said.
Raju would have been released on bail from jail on Tuesday if he had done as planned.
He was also appearing for the PUC exams next month. But the young man committed suicide as he was worried that he could not get bail, that he would not be able to write his exams and that he would have to languish in jail for the rest of his life. As soon as they came to know about the incident, the parents rushed to the jail and saw the dead body of their son.
