    ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿನಿತ್ಯ 2000 ವಾಹನಗಳು ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ರಸ್ತೆಗೆ ಇಳಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಅತಿವೇಗ, ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಚಾಲನೆಯಿಂದ ಅಪಘಾತಗಳು ಸಂಭವಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಕಳೆದ ಎರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದರೇ 2023ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭೀಕರ ಅಪಘಾತದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿರುವ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಳವಾಗಿದೆ.
    ನಗರ ಸಂಚಾರ ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಮೂರು ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿರುವ ಅಪಘಾತಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಮೃತಪಟ್ಟವರ ಅಂಕಿ- ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಗಳ ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ಕೈಪಿಡಿಯನ್ನು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದ್ದು,ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಆಘಾತಕಾರಿ ಅಂಶಗಳು ಬಹಿರಂಗಗೊಂಡಿವೆ.
    ಕಳೆದ 2020 ರಲ್ಲಿ 632 ಭೀಕರ ಅಪಘಾತಗಳು ಸಂಭವಿಸಿ, 657 ಮಂದಿ ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿದ್ದರೆ,2021 ರಲ್ಲಿ 618 ಅಪಘಾತಗಳು ಸಂಭವಿಸಿ 651 ಜನ ಮೃತ ಪಟ್ಟರೆ,2022 ರಲ್ಲಿ 752 ಅಪಘಾತಗಳು ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದ್ದು, 772ಮಂದಿ ಮೃತರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. 2021ರಕ್ಕಿಂತ 2022 ರಲ್ಲಿ 134 ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಅಪಘಾತ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದ್ದು, ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ 121ಮಂದಿ ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
    2022 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೃತಪಟ್ಟ 772 ಜನರ ಪೈಕಿ ದ್ವಿಚಕ್ರ ವಾಹನ ಸವಾರರು 341, 247 ಪಾದಚಾರಿಗಳು, 90 ಹಿಂಬದಿ ಸವಾರರು ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಲ್ಮೆಟ್ ರಹಿತ ಚಾಲನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 122 ಮಂದಿ ಹೆಲ್ಮೆಟ್ ಧರಿಸಿದ 319ಮಂದಿ ಮೃತರಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ಸರಾಸರಿ163 ಮಂದಿ ಸ್ವಯಂ ಚಾಲಿತ ಅಪಘಾತ (ಸೆಲ್ಫ್ ಆಕ್ಸಿಡೆಂಟ್​​)ಗೆ ಬಲಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    2022ರ ಕ್ಕಿಂತ 2020-21ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಅಪಘಾತಗಳು ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ ಕೊರೊನಾ ಹಿನ್ನಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಲಾಕ್ ಡೌನ್​​ನಿಂದ ಅಪಘಾತಗಳು ಇಳಿಮುಖವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಕೋರೊನಾ ವೇಳೆ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಹನಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ವಿರಳವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ವರ್ಕ್ ಫ್ರಂಮ್ ಹೋಮ್, –ಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಕಾರಣ ಅಪಘಾತ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿಮುಖವಾಗಿತ್ತು.

    2022 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪಘಾತದಲ್ಲಿ ನಗರದ 464, ವಿವಿಧ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯವರು 139, ಹೊರರಾಜ್ಯದವರು 137, ವಿದೇಶಿಗರು4, ಅಪರಿಚಿತರು 28 ಮಂದಿ ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿದ್ದಾರೆ. 543 ಜನರು ತಲೆಗೆ ಗಾಯಗೊಂಡು ಮೃತರಾದರೆ,ರಸ್ತೆ ಗುಂಡಿಯಿಂದ 3 ಜನರು ನಿಧನರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
