ಮದುವೆಯಿಂದ ಮರಳಿ ಬಂದ ಪ್ರಸಾದ್ ಬಾಬು ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಚಿನ್ನ ಕಳ್ಳತನವಾಗಿರುವ ವಿಷಯ ತಿಳಿದು ಬಂದಿತ್ತು. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಪೊಲೀಸರಿಗೆ ದೂರು ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. ತನಿಖೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಸಿಸಿಟಿವಿ ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳ ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆ, ಬೆರಳಚ್ಚು ತಜ್ಞರ ಸಹಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆದು ಸುಮಾರು 11 ಮಂದಿಯನ್ನು ಆರೋಪಿಗಳನ್ನಾಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ವಿಚಾರಣೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಆರೋಪಿಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೌಮ್ಯಾ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಸಹ ಇದ್ದರು.
